GREENVILLE, S.C. — Grammy-winning gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson issued an apology Dec. 18 after her arrest Dec. 16 in Greenville on intoxication charges, the Greenville News reported on Dec. 18.
In a video posted to Larry Reid Live on YouTube, Johnson stated the following:.
“To all of my family, my friends and my supporters, I just want to say thank you for your continued prayers and love.
“I do see all of the text messages and all of the phone calls.
“I’m just taking this time now to really just ‘woosah.’
“This (alcoholism) is a daily walk, and this has been a daily walk for me for some time, I’m yet still growing.â€
The Greenville News added, “The 41-year-old singer has been a topic of discussion on social media since her arrest. Comedian and radio host Rickey Smiley posted a video in defense of Johnson.
“Greenville Police were called to BrickTop’s restaurant on reports that Johnson was ‘causing a disturbance,’ screaming at other customers. She was arrested and charged with public intoxication and having an open alcohol container on a public street after police reported seeing her with a styrofoam cup that she attempted to conceal when an officer approached. She was released from the Greenville County Detention Center Tuesday (Dec. 17) after posting bond.â€
Johnson has talked previously about her battle with alcoholism.
In 2019, she told “Iyanla Fix My Life,†host Iyanla Vanzant that she had been part of a 30-day rehabilitation program. She also recounted 30 days in jail on driving under the influence charges.
Johnson was born on Jan. 23, 1983, in Palatka, Fla., and later moved with her family to Altamonte, Fla.
She started singing as a child growing up in the church led by her parents, Bishop Gregory Johnson and Pastor Sharon Johnson, at HQ Ministries in Altamonte.
Johnson lives in Covington, Ga., according to the police report.
