Tar Heels stomp UNCA, but Smithson scores 20

CHAPEL HILL ÇƒÓ Speedy No. 3 UNC Chapel Hill used a big run midway through the first half and early in the second half to down UNC Asheville 93-62 at the Smith Center last Saturday afternoon.

UNC (8-1), which finished with four players in double figures and nine team members scoring, led by as many as 35 points.

Despite blasting UNCA (4-6), Tar Heels coach Roy Williams, an Asheville native, said afterward that he was disappointed with his teamës offensive effort.


Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was Bryan Smithson with 20 points. It was the Smithsonës 10th straight game in double figures this year. Junior guard K.J. Garland junior forward Vincent James finished with 11 points each. Joey Harrell added nine points and six rebounds.

The Tar Heel were led by freshman Bradan Wright, who had 21 points and nine rebounds.

This past Tuesday night, UNCA was to have paid a visit to East Tennessee (the results of that game, played after the Daily Planetës press deadline, will appear in next weekës newspaper).


Continuing on the road, the Bulldogs will play at South Carolina State at 7 p.m. Thursday and at South Carolina at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 28.
