HENDERSONVILLE  â€” U.S. Rep. Chuck  Edwards, R-Flat Rock, hosted an informational and interest event for local students looking to join any of the U.S. military branches on March 2 at the Henderson County Historic Courthouse on Main Street downtown.

Local students interested in joining the military got to learn more about their potential next steps at the “Military Service Academy Day” event

Representatives from all five U.S. military service branches were there to share their experiences with students and answer any questions about the admission process.

"It really is not only heartwarming, it's encouraging that we have youth today that are so bright, so smart, so eager to serve our country," Edwards told Asheville television station (News 13). "It restores my faith in today's youth."

Edwards said he hopes events like these can help keep each of the branches fully-staffed and help interested students find the place where they can best serve their country.

High school students also were informed how they can be nominated by Edwards for a service academy appointment.

In a press release, Edwards stated the following:

“One of my most sacred duties representing the 11th district of North Carolina is selecting nominees for students seeking appointments to our nation’s military service academies. 

“I’m excited that this year, we will be kicking off a Military Service Academy Day for students, parents and educators to learn more about the service academies and the application process. 

“I encourage anyone who is interested in learning how they can advance their academic and professional careers while serving our great nation to join us.”
