From Staff Reports

NEWBERRY, S.C. — A “Music of the â€˜Rat Pack’” tribute concert will be performed at 3 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Newberry Opera House, 1201 McKibben St., here.

As for the show, an event promotion noted, “Doug and Bunny Williams are proud to present Kevin Bush, Terrance Henderson, Jonathan Jackson and Jason Stokes for an afternoon of swingin’ songs, a bar stocked with plenty of ‘gasoline’ and accompaniment by musical director Greg Boatwright and some of the best musical talent in the state.

“‘The Pack’ is not an imitation – they just continue the philosophy of the original ‘Rat Pack’ … sing a little, drink a little, and have a whole lot of fun.”

The four performers are billed as “regional stars.” — and “they will be accompanied by the phenomenal Greg Boatwright on piano,” a promotion stated.

The original “Rat Pack” — most memorably — featured Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. However, early on it also included Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.

“On stage and in movies, The Rat Pack was the epitome of mid-20th century celebrity and a bygone era of glitz and glamour,” the website www.theratpack.com stated. “They were a self-contained variety show, consisting of some of the biggest entertainers of the era. There was something special about seeing huge talents dressed in tuxedos, often with a cigarette or alcoholic beverage in hand, singing songs, doing impressions, and playfully insulting each other.”
