Separate discussions of the musical legacy of Linda Rondstadt and the 1978 film “The Last Waltz will be hosted by Asheville-based music journalist and author Bill Kopp in early February, both in Asheville’s River Arts District.
“The Music of Linda Ronstadt†discussion/critique will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Asheville Guitar Bar, 122 Riverside Drive, Suite D, in Asheville.
Kopp calls Ronstadt “the 1970s’ most popular female singer.†His “special guest†for the Ronstadt discussion will be Asheville-based vocalist Peggy Ratusz. During their discussion, selected Ronstadt recordings will be played. Seating is limited. Tickets at the door are $10.
Kopp’s second program, including a brief introduction, screening and discussion/critique of the film “The Last Waltz,†will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Grail Moviehouse, 17 Foundry St. in Asheville.
Kopp touts “The Last Waltz,†starring The Band “and an all-star cast of musical friends,†as being “widely hailed as one of the best concert films ever made.†The film was directed by Martin Scorsese — arguably one of the best-ever directors. Seating is limited. Tickets at the door are $15.
