NEWTON — The Temptations, Featuring the Legacy of Dennis Edwards, will perform in a concert with “special guests†The Classic Supremes at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Newton Performing Arts Center, 60 West Sixth St., here.
“Dennis Edwards joined The Temptations in 1968, replacing David Ruffin, the former lead singer of The Temptations,†a promotion stated. “Dennis Edwards was the legendary lead singer of The Temptations for 14 years.
“He is the ‘voice’ on top 40 Billboard hit singles ‘Psychedelic Shack,’ ‘Papa Was a Rolling Stone’ (1972), ‘Ball of Confusion’ (1970), ‘I Can’t Get Next To You’ (1969), ‘Shakey Ground’ (1975), ‘Runaway Child Running Wild,’ ‘Cloud Nine’ (1968) and more.
“Dennis Edwards was a part of Motown’s first Grammy Award, ‘Cloud Nine.’ Mr. Edwards was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (in 1989) in association with Temptations’ members Otis Williams, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, Melvin Franklin and Paul Williams Jr.â€
