Version of The Temptations to sing and spin on Jan. 19 with The Classic Supremes in joint concert at Newton

NEWTON — The Temptations, Featuring the Legacy of Dennis Edwards, will perform in a concert with “special guests” The Classic Supremes at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Newton Performing Arts Center, 60 West Sixth St., here. 

“Dennis Edwards joined The Temptations in 1968, replacing David Ruffin, the former lead singer of The Temptations,” a promotion stated. “Dennis Edwards was the legendary lead singer of The Temptations for 14 years. 

“He is the ‘voice’ on top 40 Billboard hit singles ‘Psychedelic Shack,’ ‘Papa Was a Rolling Stone’ (1972), ‘Ball of Confusion’ (1970), ‘I Can’t Get Next To You’ (1969), ‘Shakey Ground’ (1975), ‘Runaway Child Running Wild,’ ‘Cloud Nine’ (1968) and more. 

“Dennis Edwards was a part of Motown’s first Grammy Award, ‘Cloud Nine.’ Mr. Edwards was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (in 1989) in association with Temptations’ members Otis Williams, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, Melvin Franklin and Paul Williams Jr.”
