Joe Biden’s terribly weak governance? It’s linked to crises in America, the Middle East (and even China)
Wednesday, 25 October 2023 21:58

I can’t help thinking to myself… Roger, forget the price of eggs… people are dying, women are being raped — then shot, babies are being beheaded, hostages taken… to be slaughtered, later… And I remember people (our friends) saying “I hate that red-headed a--hole” or b-stard.

Remember now, it’s two wars. And the most important thing is we are”going green.” It is small now — who trusts the U.S. Department of Justice?

Who trusts our elections?  Small things…. Who trusts the United States government? They will be coming after us next — both Democrats and Republicans. I miss that “Red-Headed B-stard.”

Times were simpler, at least if you believed “a man was innocent until proven guilty” and didn’t put much faith in the Russian collusion lie.  I’d like to buy gasoline at $2.38 a gallon.

Recalling, as a matter of fact, I like eggs, whether I paid 98 cents a dozen or 68 cents a dozen.

There are people who give good reason to hate them. Hamas and Iran are, as I understand it, the same thing. The “green” plan has given Iran $45 billion.

When (President Donald J.) Trump was in office, their government was worth $5 billion, now they are worth $60 billion, and we release $6 billion to them.

Thank heaven for the Biden’s “green plan.”  Shut down American oil. Buy an electric car and make it possible to rape an Israeli woman or, better yet, behead a baby.

That’s it, reduced to the simplest terms.

Just a thought... Is Taiwan next? It’s time for China to move....

U.S. Rep. Edwards condones a massacre, reader-critic claims

It breaks my heart to watch the U.S. — once again — beat the drums of war.

Our U.S. congressman, Chuck Edwards, wrote Oct. 18 on Twitter (now “X”): “I stand with Israel against the most evil of enemies.”

President Biden uses similar language: “The terrorist group Hamas unleashed pure unadulterated evil in the world.”

Except Israel has not dropped 6,000-plus bombs on Hamas. Israel has dropped 6,000-plus bombs on a densely populated city of 2.3 million people, half of whom are under the age of 18.

Most evil done in the world is done in the name of eradicating evil in others. Palestinians are not evil; they are desperate.

What Israel is doing right now, and what our congressman is trying to sell to us, is not self-defense, not justice and not prudent geopolitical maneuvering.

It is a massacre and the forced displacement of a desperate people.

I urge our congressman and all people of conscience to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The 203 hostages taken by Hamas into Gaza now share the same fate as the people of Gaza.

Bombing Gaza back to the Stone Age will not get them home safely.

U.S. blanket support of Israel’s ongoing occupation of Palestine, Israel’s disproportionate response to Hamas’s attack, and Israel’s collective punishment of Palestinian civilians makes the world more dangerous for Americans, not safer.

It makes the world more dangerous for everybody.

Reader’s letter to Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khameneiwarns of divine retribution for attack on Israel

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following letter to Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was sent by its author to the Daily Planet with the request that it be reprinted as a letter to the editor.
•
Dear Ayatollah Khamenei:

As Iran’s religious leader, you must have read God’s original Word to mankind which God gave to Moses, with His command, that it was to be made known throughout the Earth.

Not only to be known, but to be obeyed by Mankind, in order to have a just and righteous world.

To achieve a just and righteous world, God gave Moses, and the world, the Ten Commandments, that are to be obeyed by that generation, and all future human generations.

In the first commandment, God Almighty makes it clear that He is God and that “Thou shall not have other gods.”

He also told Moses that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had known Him as God Almighty, but that his name was Jehovah. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel.

It was through Israel’s descendants that God fulfilled his promise, to give the “Promised Land” to Abraham.

God used his great power, first, to get them out of Egyptian slavery, and then maintaining them in the desert for 40 years.

God kept them in the desert that long because

He had to punish some for their unbelief and disobedience.

After God’s cleansing, He used his powers to help them to conquer the Promised Land.

He instilled fear of God upon the ungodly inhabitants.

They possessed the Promised Land.

Later, unfortunately, like the rest of humanity, they failed and worshiped other gods — and were severely punished.

According to the Word of God, Israelites are still the rightful owners of the Promised Land.

They are God’s Chosen Nation — and will always be.

God, the Creator, is the owner of everything made or created on Earth and the Universe.

We are all supposed to love God first, and love Israel and the rest of Humanity.

Those who Hate Israel and have been saying “death to Israel” are disobeying God. God is Love — NOT HATE.

Launching thousands of rockets to kill Israelites and invading their God Given Country, and murdering innocent civilians, is a crime against God and humanity.

That Promised Land and the Rest of the World, through the ages and now, continues to disobey God and his Just and Righteous Commandments.

The Word of God tells of the “End of Time.”

It is going to come when God calls it time.

When it starts, only He knows.

When He does, some 87 percent of the human population will die before He sends His Son Jesus to destroy the rest of the unbelievers.

When he comes from Heaven, he will bring with him over a hundred million with him.

Those will include those who were “born again” and were resurrected — and God’s angels.

He will rule this Earth for a thousand years — from Jerusalem.

Mayor’s ‘State of the City’ address? Virtue-signaling diminishes key issues

I read John North’s recap of the mayor of Asheville’s “State of the City” presentation (in a story in the Oct. 11-24 edition of the Daily Planet).

The following is my reaction:

The first obligation of elected officials, such as the mayor, is to ensure the safety of its citizens and create an environment where commerce can flourish.

The city has responsibilities for law enforcement, transportation conditions, standards for buildings and construction, health and safety operations, water and sanitation services and a host of other obligations — and employs people to perform such services.

The mayor said “our biggest job... is to adopt the budget....”

The budget is a statement of priorities and initiatives. One would hope these initiatives promote the priorities of the citizens. Unfortunately, several initiatives do not meet this standard.

The first item mentioned is addressing employee compensation. Those items include: increasing the match for 401(k) plans by 1 percent, a wellness incentive for APD and commissioning a study for post-employment retirement care. Good.

Next comes, “one of the key focus areas has been reparations.” To ask citizens who never owned slaves to pay people who never were slaves is beyond foolish and has so many complexities I hope it is forever tabled. It is nothing more than virtue-signaling and solves no problems, while creating greater division among the citizenry.

Next is another attempt at virtue-signaling for climate. Stating “We are also a climate refuge, so you see people moving here because of Asheville’s climate status.”

If you don’t solve the problem of crime, panhandlers, vagrants and open drug use, no one will move here. Witness the low visitor-counts over the summer — and ask why are they lower?

Countless people have told me they no longer go out for dinner downtown, as it is dangerous.

An adjacent article (in the Oct. 11-24 edition of the Daily Planet) reads: “Windows smashed at 4 downtown businesses....” More trees won’t solve that problem — but more APD officers will.

The mayor refers to the Merrimon (Avenue) bike lane change as a “road diet.” I am a road biker and I also drive on Merrimon frequently. There are many more cars than bikes. The priority should be for the greater good, which would have left the four lanes of vehicle travel intact. Like it or not, people in cars have important activities to attend to. There are other safer — and prettier — places to ride.

For brevity, I want to focus on one final issue, the homelessness project. That some are homeless is an outcome derived from other factors. Those include substance abuse, mental and physical health issues, lack of skills, poor hygiene, a lack of transportation options, poor work ethic and so forth. Giving access to a residence is meaningless without attention to the other issues. Are beneficiaries required to receive counseling for substance issues?

Are they required to be tested? Are they given a health screening? Are they required to be in wellness programs?

It is a complicated issue, but merely giving people an abode without dealing with the root cause of homelessness will solve nothing. There are a number of social services provided by the local government. These services should be pointed toward those who have taken to the streets.

In sum, the mayor and (Asheville) City Council should focus on the issues vital to a vibrant city: safety, cleanliness, being easy to do business with, thoughtful transportation solutions, effective social welfare agencies, establishing goals and measuring results and respecting how taxpayer money is spent.

Forgo the virtue-signaling — focus on the vital issues.

Has legacy of Lincoln, Hitler, Putin, PLO been forgotten in 21st century?

How soon they forget... Fox News and their cohorts — and so many like them — refuse to give an accounting of comparative history, describing the actions of the Palestinians in Gaza against Israel as demonic, evil and inhumane.

However, my Yankee friends need to look back in time and recall that we Southerners  have seen this behavior before.

After Lincoln issued his “Total Warfare Policy” to Grant and Sherman, the Army of the Potomac did as he ordered — took the theater of war to the front door of defenseless old men, women and children of the South.

They burned down structures, they looted and stole, raped Southern girls, little boys and women (old and young) — and they murderered without cause.

The raping was so bad against a group of young black slave girls that a group of federal soldiers turned their commander in to Lincoln, who not only did not stop the carnage, but promoted him (their commander) to a general, and continued from his telegraph office to take a hands-on role in carrying out his evil policy.

At the end of the war, General Robert E. Lee continued to call for reconciliation. Many of his men would don the uniform of the Yankee blue and so distinguish themselves in the Spanish American War.

This happened during the time when white Yankees and their U.S. Colored Troops were being buried in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery — and former Confederate veterans were not allowed burial there.

Later, President William McKinley jumped at the opportunity to try and lead the nation towards reconciliation by rewarding these men of the South whose meritorious services had led the nation to victory.

He (McKinley) asked the United Daughters of the Confederacy if they would build a reconciliation memorial to this charge.

At the asking, at first the UDC balked at the idea. They not only remembered how the Lee family property had been stolen at Arlington, but also that the Southern people were a long way from forgiveness of the evil they had suffered at the hands of the Union Army.

Because of the demeanor in his asking and the pleas of reconciliation from General Lee, they finally relented and took the charge of  burying and building a memorial shrine to the Confederate soldiers.

They chose renowned Jewish sculptor and Confederate veteran Moses Ezekiel to perform the task.

McKinley had prevailed. There, before the world, would forever be a visible testiment of reconciliation to see: The Confederate Shrine at Arlington.

Ezekiel did not let them down. At his passing, fittingly, his headstone would rest at the base of the cenotaph.

Unfortunately, now in the 21st century, as the Southern American Indians had said in their reasoning for fighting with the South  — it was because the Northern white man could not be trusted and would never keep his word.

It appears they were right — as the Department of Defense has climbed into bed with a Southern-hating Yankee senator (Elizabeth Warren), who would stand on the Senate chamber floor while breaking constitutional law that forbids a bill of attainder by naming the Confederate Army and its people as traitors — thus throwing all efforts of reconciliation to the wind... tantamount to an act of war

My mom would tell her children that the pot can’t call the kettle black.

To avoid the truths of history via eradication, my Yankee friends want all our children not to know that the evil of Hitler, Putin and Hamas come right from the playbook of Abraham Lincoln. God bless you!
