The Daily Planet's Opinion: The horror that is Harvard... and UVa, Stanford, Columbia....

Schooled on hate, instead of being ‘best and brightest,’ universities churning out ‘brainwashed drones of evil’

To its everlasting shame, Harvard University — as website www.businessnessinsider.com recently put it — “has become a flashpoint in the intergenerational divide on the Israel-Hamas war.

“That’s after student groups signed a statement that Israel was ‘entirely responsible’ for (the) attacks. The fallout reflects wider disagreement about Israel-Hamas, but also campus free speech,” the website added.

Of course, some Harvard professors jumped on board with the students — and Claudine Gay, the university’s new president, has been widely criticized for her slow response to condemn what she later termed as “barbaric atrocities perpetrated by Hamas” and (as expected) rejected calls to punish and name students who signed onto a statement that said they hold Israel “entirely responsible” for the ongoing violence.

Raucous student demonstrations favoring Hamas over Israel occurred at countless U.S. colleges and universities, but, besides Harvard, among the ugliest protests were at Stanford and Columbia universities— and, even in our own backyard, at the University of Virginia. (In 1819, Thomas Jefferson founded UVa as a “nonreligious” public university — and he rightly must be turning over in his grave as anti-Semitism appears to hold sway there now.)

In its report on Harvard, businessinsider.com noted the following:

“It began when student groups at Harvard University signed a statement that opened with the following: ‘We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.’ The statement did not condemn Hamas.

“Backlash from wealthy Harvard alumni and donors has been swift. Some firms rescinded employment offers to students identified as being associated with the statement. Similar incidents are taking place at other colleges.

“The flare-up reflects the tension for elite colleges as a bastion for radical campus politics, and their reliance on wealthy, powerful alumni who might hold different views. As Insider has previously reported, the views of younger Democrats and Republicans have begun to skew less sympathetic to Israel.”

Meanwhile, we agree with the sentiment of rabbi and syndicated columnist Dennis Prager, whose work appears in the Daily Planet, who recently (and aptly) described many (but not all) of today’s college students as “brainwashed drones of evil.” And, we must add, many of their professors are even worse....
