Letters to the Editor: Courthouse expansion plan called unfair to the poor; Will Asheville's anarchists 'come down' to even the score?
Sunday, 15 October 2023 11:44

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners are planning to spend $175 million to expand the Henderson County Courthouse and Jail!

And how are the county commissioners planning to restore that $175 million to the county commissioners’ budget?

By ticketing poor white and black and Mexican drivers through chicken s--t traffic stops and chicken s--t traffic fines.

That’s how the county commissioners have always done it.

Traffic court and district court are all about robbing poor people of money to fill the county coffers!

That’s what jails costs and court costs are for, as well. Henderson County continues to be built on the backs of the poor.

Chicken s--t county commissioners wouldn’t dare raise taxes on county residents. So they get money for capital projects by ticketing and fining the local poor.

And all county project are built on the backs of the poor through fines and tickets and jail costs and court costs and bail costs and pretrial and postrial costs.

I hope county residents will like their renovated and enlarged courthouse and jail.

The poor will be paying for it!!!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Pope also included a postscript to his letter to the editor, which is reprinted below.

Maybe Asheville’s anarchists will come down to Henderson County and administer some righteous a---whoopin’(s) to the powers that be that sell out Henderson County for money — and build the county on the backs of the poor through tickets, fines and court costs and criminal justice costs.

Thoughts from the chairman: Hold the standard vs. bullies

A mother recently shared a story with me.

Fifteen years ago her son was taught that if a bully picked on a classmate and you stepped in to help defend the student, then you were both at fault and could be kicked out of school.

In other words, at this school, kids were discouraged from standing up to wrong behavior and told not to help.

Our country was founded on Judeo-Christian values: Moses stood up to the mighty and enslaving Egyptian empire; David stood up to Goliath; Gideon, Esther, Paul…the list goes on.

To speak out is our strength.

To be silent is not an option.

Our community and the defense of family, free enterprise and law and order depend on our courageous voices speaking up.

Let’s hold the standard to stand up to bullies and bullying ideologies, no matter what the cultural trends may be.

Man disobeys God, resulting in judgment, Okla. reader says

Without question, Mankind has been a great disappointment to God, our Creator, because of our disobedience.

The first recorded case occurred when the first women, Eve, listened to the serpent, and knowingly ate of the forbitten fruit.

Adam, her husband, obviously could not refuse Eve’s offer of the fruit, so he, too, ate of it.

God had warned them not to eat of the tree in the midst of the Garden of Eden, nor to touch it.

After eating the fruit, they quickly acquired knowledge of the fact that they were naked and tried to cover themselves up so God wouldn’t see their naked bodies.

God then said, that because Man had eaten of the forbitten fruit that now they knew good and evil.

Apparently, God intended the couple to teach their future children, and descendants, all about good and evil, because God closed all access to the tree of knowledge of good and evil by closing off the Garden of Eden.

However, they either forgot to tell their first son Cain that killing another person was evil, or Cain just disobeyed God and killed his brother Able, thereby becoming the first human to commit murder.

Some sixteen hundred years later God looked down from Heaven and saw that Mankind had become so wicked that every thought in their mind was Evil.

God could only find one man that was righteous, and that man was Noah.

God told Noah to build an Ark (ship) and it took him and his three married sons a hundred years to finish the Ark.  During that time Noah warned his fellow man of God’s word that He was going to bring rain which would flood and kill them because of their evil behavior and disobedience of His word.  They did not believe him and were drowned.

God said that “never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

But he knows all about Man, He said, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, ALTHOUGH THE IMAGINATION OF MANS HEART IS EVIL FROM HIS YOUTH.”

MAN CONTINUES TO BE EVIL AND DISOBEDIANT AND WILL BE JUDGED!

How He will do it is in the Bible — the Word of God.
