Upstate children’s choir to sing National Anthem during Trump visit, after being silenced in D.C.

From Staff Reports

PICKENS, S.C. — Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump will speak at Pickens’ Independence Day Spectacuklar from 1 to 2 p.m. July 1 on Main Street, according to announcements by the City of Pickens and the Trump campaign.

Gates will open at 9 a.m., followed by speakers beginning at 11:30 a.m. Also invited to perform at the Trump rally is the Rushingbrook Children’s Choir from Greenville, which was ordered to stop singing The National Anthem at the Capitol Building recently.

The Charleston Post & Courier reported that Pickens likely was selected by the Trump campaign for a visit because it  is extremely pro-Trump.

Following is an excerpt of the Post & Courier’s report on the Trump visit to Pickens:

"The campaign stop will put the former president in the friendliest political territory he can find in South Carolina, in the northwest corner of the Upstate.

“While Trump won South Carolina in both 2016 and 2020, his margin of victory was the greatest in Pickens County.

”“In 2016, Trump clobbered Democrat Hillary Clinton there by 53 points. In 2020, voters in Pickens County again overwhelmingly picked Trump, where returns show he trounced Democrat Joe Biden by 51 points.

“The campaign backdrop — a small, city-sanctioned July Fourth celebration along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains — will be a departure from Trump’s large, stadium-style rallies. But due to its geographic location, the event could easily pull supporters from neighboring Southern states.”
