Traffic charge against Rep. Cawthorn dismissed
Sunday, 25 December 2022 17:07

From Staff Reports

A charge of driving with a revoked license against U.S Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-Hendersonville, has been dropped, Asheville television station WLOS (News 13) reported on Dec. 13.

“Dashcam video showed a North Carolina state trooper pulling Cawthorn over in Cleveland County on March 3,” News 13 noted.

“The trooper reportedly pulled Cawthorn over for driving left of the center line. The traffic stop resulted in the Republican congressman being issued a violation for driving with a revoked license.

“At the time, Cawthorn’s license had been suspended following a speeding conviction in Georgia.

“The Cleveland County clerk of court said the charge was dismissed Nov. 23,” News 13 reported.

Cawthorn will leave office Jan. 3 after serving one term, but he will continue to face legal issues, including the following:

• A Polk County speeding ticket in which an N.C. Highway Patrol trooper said he was driving 87 miles per hour in a 70 miles per hour zone.

• A misdemeanor charge for bringing a loaded gun through Charlotte Douglas International Airport security — something to which he has admitted.

The Daily Planet emailed Cawthorn twice, seeking his side of the story on his recent legal battles, but did not receive a response from him by the newspaper’s

mid-morning Dec. 19 deadline.
