The petition, “Enough is Enough†is circulating. I picked it up at the gun show this past weekend. I found it to be a great read!
This petition is requesting safety council (Asheville Public Safety Committee) member (Kim) Roney be removed from the committee.
This letter was submitted to Mayor (Esther) Mannheimer, Vice Mayor (Sheneika) Smith, council members (Sandra) Kilgore, (Antanette) Mosley, (Sage) Turner and (Gwen) Wisler — and City Manager (Debra) Campbell.
Here are the reasons for the petition:
Who’s Protecting You!!!!
1. Roney is consistently seeking to defund the police
2. 2021 Asheville City Police announced (that) 911 calls for theft, fraud or trespassing would cease due to one-third loss of the police force.
3. (In) 2021, WLOS (News 13) reported Asheville ranked in the 10 percent as most violent cities in America. (In) 2022, Asheville violent crime increased 34 percent.
4. Asheville drug-related deaths, in particular, (from) Fentanyl, has (been) attributed to devastating our community families!
Roney voted twice against the HIDTA Grant (high-intensity drug trafficking area), which targets Asheville’s high trafficking areas.
5. APD lack of protective equipment (bulletproof vests), outdated bomb robot, updated DNA analysis equipment and forensic technician training remains in limbo.
A (city) budget amendment collected funds, but has not been allocated to the budget to use.
Our (APD) officers must be well-trained, well-equipped and respected. The police force provides a safe environment for its citizens.

Yes, lock him (Trump) up; or deport the ‘liar in chief’
How much more evidence do we need to convict Liar in Chief Donald Trump?
It is clear the sore loser orchestrated the January 6th insurrection and to this day tries to lie his way out of numerous charges.
Indeed, lock him and his co-conspirator family up — or deport them!

In Age of Rage, a goodwill ambassador needed
During the Great Depression, the mood of the nation was as depressed as the economy!
Then-President Franklin (Delano) Roosevelt appointed the always-happy Shirley Temple (as) goodwill ambassor of America — and historians credit the always-happy Shirley Temple with lifting the mood of the nation.
American social scientists have nicknamed the angry times we Americans are living in as the “Age of Rage.†Americans have never before been this angry and mean and hateful and raging and divided from each other. President (Joe) Biden claims to be a disciple of President Franklin Roosevelt and, if this is true, then Biden knows that President Roosevelt made the always-happy Shirley Temple the goodwill ambassador to America during the Great Depression....
President Biden should emulate his guru, President Roosevelt, by appointing the always-happy pop star JoJo Siwa (to serve as) the goodwill ambassador to America, and see if the always-happy JoJo Siwa’s always-happy mood, and her positivity, and her good vibes, and good energy don’t lift the mood of the national zeitgeist — and bring us out of the Age of Rage!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Later in life, Shirley Temple served as the U.S. ambassador to Czechoslovakia (Aug. 23, 1989-July 12, 1992), having been appointed by President George H. W. Bush, and was the first and only woman to serve in this job.
Stop voting straight ticket, says reader (who plans to vote for Beach-Ferrara)
I believe voting straight ticket, “R†or “D†is this country’s downfall.
Too many voters refuse to research the candidates background, experience, education and their position on issues.
Why?
Because too many are lazy.
This year I have researched the background of the two candidates running in the 11th District for the U.S. House of Representatives. Jasmine Beach-Ferrara will be my pick.
She has the qualities that are important to me. She holds a Master of Fine Arts and completed her Master of Divinity degree at Harvard Divinity School and is an ordained minister. She supports the 2nd Amendment and does not want to take our guns away. However she believes the 2nd Amendment needs a balance that protects the 2nd Amendment, while also keeping the community safe.
She firmly believes that equal rights pertain to everyone.
She is nationally known as a LGBTQ activist. She believes marijuana should be legalized and taxed. She believes the Child Tax Credit should be revived. She believes in improving healthcare for all. She believes in reducing drug prices. She is pro-choice.
Her opponent would only agree to one debate, even though she wanted to have more debates.
By the way, I am an unaffiliated voter and believe my right to vote requires that I spend the time to research — and not vote straight ticket.

Student praised for honoring heritage by wearing Confederate uniform at game
WLOS (News 13) would post on their letter page of Oct. 17 a story that read:
A student wore a Confederate uniform to a recent high school football game prompting some concern and criticism
My first thought was, “Oh, how courageous!â€
And what was the criticism?
Far too many of these damn Yankees who have migrated into our homeland and the DNA traitors seem to believe that those of us whose birthplace of origin is in the Confederate States of America have bought into the lies they tell about the stand made against their horde of an army that came with their total warfare policy, killing defenseless old men, women and children.
And not to forget the raping, plunder and burnning.
On Monday (Oct. 17), Buncombe County school officials offered a response over the students attire at the Oct. 7 game.
The student was part of a Junior ROTC Color Guard representing different eras of military history.
God bless the young man and his peers for carrying out the charge presented by their honorable commander for allowing and recognizing their actions as well done.
A school system spokesperson said the (Buncombe) School Board has not taken any action.
Finally, a school board — so far — had the courage to do the right thing.
However, central office and school administrators have looked into the situation and, moving forward, will make sure all historical period piece costumes used for school events will be screened for appropriateness prior to the event, the spokesman said.
Central office and school administrators acted and responded as best they could with the fear that sucked at their bones by the procrastination they succumbed to.
I would ask the brigade commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Honorable Tom Vernon, if he would give this young man an award for his heroic action?
He gave me a resounding “yes !â€
And further promised that he would ask the National Sons of Confederate Veterans, if they would do the same.
I shall ask him if he would ask every camp in the North Carolina division to give this young hero a “Letter of Appreciation.†God bless you!
