More than half of working Americans considered holding multiple jobs to pay their living expenses as inflation continued to skyrocket in September and real wages fell, according to an Oct. 19 story by Bloomberg.com.
Based on all that we at the Daily Planet have seen, heard and read, this confirms our view of today’s grim reality in this once-great country.
Bloomberg.com also reported:
“About 38 percent of workers have looked for a second job, while an additional 14 percent have plans to do so, according to a survey of more than 1,000 full-time U.S. employees by Qualtrics International, which makes software used by more than 16,000 organizations.
“At the same time, 18 percent of working adults said they had moved to an area with a lower cost of living to cut expenses, and an additional 13 percent plan to do so.
“Working parents, in particular, are in the hot seat. About 70 percent say their pay isn’t keeping up with rising expenses. A recent Brookings Institution study estimated that the current surge in prices means it will now cost more than $300,000 to raise a child to age 17, up $26,000 since inflation took hold.
“Nearly half of working parents have looked for a second job, and parents are almost twice as likely to have moved to cheaper cities than employees without children.
“‘With budgets tightening, workers are searching for ways to meet the rising cost of living, including finding new jobs,’ said Benjamin Granger, chief workplace psychologist at Qualtrics. ‘Employee turnover is a huge cost for companies, so it’s business-critical for organizations to understand which of their employees are likely to leave and why.’
“Holding two or more jobs is nothing new, especially for low-income workers struggling to cover basic living expenses....According to a May survey by Zapier, a tech company specializing in automation, 40 percent of Americans have a ‘side hustle,’ up from about a third before the pandemic,†Bloomberg.com noted.
Indeed, as the late/great former U.K. Prime Minister Maggie Thatcher once said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.â€
After the promises are unfulfilled, then the next problem occurs, which is the always-resulting dependency — and more poverty.
And the last thing that one has to calculate — depending on what manifestation this fully takes on in the end — is as follows:
How much freedom did you give up in the name of false security, created by people that, when you look deep inside, did not really want to promise anything?
They want to keep us dependent on them so they can stay in power. It’s that simple. That is the game that they play — and it sounds appealing.
To that end, we urge all Americans to avoid relying on the government for anything. Instead, rely on yourself. Go out, work hard and, if needed, work another job. Also, save as much as you can, so you can make independent choices down the road.
Ultimately, we urge the left-leaning U.S. government to make an ultra-radical shift in economic policy at once — namely, to slam the brakes on government spending, and to “floor it†on the gas pedal to encourage growth in the private sector.
