U.S. congressional candidate Rod Honeycutt attended a ribbon-cutting that recently was held at the Giving Heart Inc., during which the board of directors (above) presided.
The board members include Brenda Swann, president and executive director; Larry Swann, vice president; Deborah Robinson, secretary-treasurer; and three board members — Nancy Blanchard, Pastor Tom Burke and Stephen Wilkie. Giving Heart is located at 816 S. Grove St., Hendersonville.
Responding a recent candidates' survey question, Honeycutt said of his major influences, "I have studied the life of George C. Marshall, and how he rose from professional military officer to secretary of state. He was the consummate soldier statesmen."
Honeycutt is a 37-year career military officer from Woodfin. Honeycutt enlisted in the U.S. army and rose to the rank of colonel, leading at multiple command levels and several combat tours, earning two bronze stars. "He will not walk by mistakes and believes elected officials should be held to a higher standard," Honeycutt noted in a recent questionnaire.
Honeycutt said he was in command of setting-up new military communities to enable NATO rapid deterrence options in multiple European countries. His foreign policy, logistics, and combat experience in the Pacific, Middle East, Africa, Afghanistan, and Europe eventually led to him advising Congress. Honeycutt has advanced degrees in logistics and strategic studies. He has extensive national and international transportation experience.
Rod Honeycutt stated that he is a Western North Carolina First candidate, "focusing on the needs of families, farmers, first responders, essential services professionals, small businesses, teachers and students."
Honeycutt and his wife have deep family roots in WNC. The couple has three sons.
