From Staff Reports

LAKE LURE —  After having been canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers of the 13th Annual Lake Lure Dirty Dancing Festival revealed — on March 10 — details on the gala.

In February, the Daily Planet broke the news that the festival definitely will resume this year, but few details were published because the event was early in the planning stage.

However, details were forthcoming in a March 10 press release noting that the festival will be held on Sept. 10, adding, “Come one, come all! Have the time of your life ....”

The 1987 film “‘Dirty Dancing’ meant a lot to so many people in many different ways,” the release stated. “Each year, this festival celebrates the iconic film with movie-inspired dance and music, arts and entertainment. Grab some friends and get ready to relive the moments!

“This year’s Dirty Dancing Festival in Lake Lure will be a one-day extravaganza full of entertainment for all ages. The Saturday festival will include great music, dancing, selfie scene spots and the infamous Lake Lift Competition!

“Throughout the festival, arts and crafts vendors will include one-of-a-kind, handmade items from local and regional artists of Western North Carolina. Food trucks will be on-site with some delicious options, and a special ‘Club House’ garden offering: beer, wine, and cider, will be available for purchase during all festivities.

“Celebrating the 35th year since the movie release, the 2022 festival will be moved to Keeter Field in Lake Lure, which is next door to the 1927 Lake Lure Inn & Spa, where Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray stayed during filming! Only 2,500 tickets are available this year.” For tickets, which are $39, visit  https://hickorynutchamber.org/store/
