NEWTON — The Classic Drifters will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. March 5 at Newton Performing Arts Center here. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Regarding the show, an event promotion stated, “It’s a nostalgic evening saluting one of the world’s most-beloved musical groups, The Drifters.
“The Classic Drifters authentically recreate the original sound of legendary hits like ‘Save the Last Dance For Me’ and ‘Up on the Roof’ — plus the timeless ‘Under the Boardwalk.’
“Several members of group performed around the world with the late Bill Pinkney, an original member of The Drifters. Spend an evening listening to the music of the first group inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Join The Classic Drifters in concert.â€
The Drifters were formed in 1953 at the behest of Atlantic Records cofounder Ahmet Ertegun, who approached Clyde McPhatter, when the popular vocalist was dropped from Billy Ward and the Dominoes.
