The actions by the Chinese Communist Party are horrendous and represent some of the worst human rights atrocities in decades, but nosediving NBC has disgraced itself (perhaps forever) by refusing to air a television commercial during the Beijing Olympics that condemns genocide in China.
U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., tried to purchase time during the Olympics coverage to air the ad, which features National Basketball Association player Enes Kanter Freedom.
The ad reportedly takes China to task for its actions and calls out companies that want to do business with, and in, China, but refuse to say anything about the genocide and other horrors taking place in the communist nation.
In the ad, Enes Freedom calls for Americans to “stand for freedom†and “defund the dictators,†before telling consumers that “when you see ‘made in China,’ put it down.†(A trade boycott — real or threatened — is the greatest weapon the U.S. and its allies can use against China, many long-time China observers contend.)
NBC — once again kowtowing to the Chinese communists, refused the ad, putting its narrow-sighted interests (continued access to the lucrative Chinese market) over doing the right thing — allowing (rather than censoring) free and critical speech in a TV commercial that, ironically, spotlights the hypocrisy of the social justice warriors at the disgraced NBC.
Meanwhile, the Daily Planet once again vigorously commends sthe incredible courage and spirit of Enes Freedom, who plays center for the NBA’s Houston Rockets The NBA has many lucrative contracts with the Chinese Community Party and, despite claims by the players of being all about human rights, the league and its players generally have lambasted — and tried to shun — Freedom because his views (about forced labor camps and torturing certain minorities in China) could cost them dearly if the CCP were to get mad and withdraw.
Freedom has said he wants to “educate†NBA superstar Lebron James on the human rights abuses in China, but James — accused by Freedom of choosing “money over morals†— has said of Freedom, “He’s definitely not someone I will give my energy to.â€
On a related front, we feel that U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, R-Calif., will wallow in everlasting shame for her cowardly and unseemly advice on Feb. 3 to the U.S. athletes getting ready to compete in the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Specifically, Pelosi said, “I would say to our athletes: ‘You’re there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government, because they are ruthless....’
“I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there. I respect that. But I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families.â€
In response to the cowardly, pampered Pelosi, who puts safety over everything, we cite (and express complete agreement with) the famous Benjamin Franklin quote as follows:
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.â€
As for China, we stand by the renowned freedom-fighter Mohatma Gandhi, who said:
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.â€
