The Candid Conservative’s Trump fawning

Carl Mumpower is a master of the comically disingenuous understatement. It would be impressive if he were a satirist intentionally employing a clever literary device.

But I’m confident he was not channeling Jonathan Swift in his recent cheerleading of Donald Trump. Let’s look at just a few of his mendacious minimizations. Mumpower correctly identifies Trump as a narcissist. But that’s like saying Ted Bundy was a misogynist. Both are true statements, but the diagnoses are incomplete to the point of being useless.

As a psychologist, Mumpower surely knows that Trump’s disordered personality stretches far beyond narcissism. In fact, Trump is a textbook case of malignant narcissism, which encompasses four separate pathologies: narcissism, sociopathy, sadism and paranoia. He also appears to struggle regularly with psychosis: the inability to process reality properly. Trump’s mental illnesses disqualify him from holding any position of authority outside of organized crime.

To describe Trump’s COVID response, Mumpower uses the words “inconsistent prattle.” It’s flat-out offensive to refer to deadly negligence, nonstop disinformation and the refusal to provide basic national leadership as mere “prattle.” And to show that he isn’t particularly concerned about democracy, Mumpower references Trump’s refusal to honor a free and fair democratic election as a “self-aggrandizing post-election march on Georgia,” as if this were just an ego trip without consequences.

How about using proper words like authoritarian, traitorous, illegal or delusional? In all these cases, Mumpower tries to portray lawless, immoral, psychotic behavior as simple character flaws to be endured in exchange for the gloriousness of Trumpism.

I don’t begrudge anyone for holding conservative values or preferring conservative policies, but I have nothing but disdain for insidious revisionism.

Backtracking on promises just three days into new job

Emboldened by the success of Trump’s 2016 campaign promises, and the desire for Trump to leave the presidency, Democrats embraced Biden’s promise to deliver 100 million Covid vaccinations in his first 100 days in office.

However, just three days into his presidency, Biden is already backtracking on his delivery promise, stating “we’re going to face setbacks,” and “We didn’t get into this mess overnight, and it will take months to turn this around.”

Even though Biden is still in the infancy of his presidency, one has to wonder what other promises will not be kept. Until Trump’s presidency, the public saw very few political promises being kept by former presidents.

As Biden’s Day One promises face reality, the rest of America awaits with uncertainty.

‘Piling on’ after the play akin to inserting, turning a knife

In the NFL or collegiate football when the runner or receiver is down and a member of the opposing team rams into them or “piles on” after the play is dead, referees will call a unnecessary roughness penalty.

Yahoo defines: “Piling on is a personal foul penalty. It is only “piling on” when it occurs to the ball-carrier.  The NFL and NCAA penalty is 15 yards and a first down.

That is a severe penalty, depending upon where it happens. If the offending player uses the crown of their helmet as a weapon, they would be disqualified and ejected from the game and a portion of the next game.

I’m the first to say what happened at our nation’s capitol last week (Jan. 6) was a tragedy and five people paid with their lives.

That cannot be condoned and should never happen again. But blaming that on President Trump, and then for days if not weeks “piling on” with drive-by impeachment and denigrating the hundreds of thousands of Americans who attended the rally as “domestic terrorists” is inserting the knife, turning it, followed by rubbing salt in the wounds.

Or said another way, “piling on.”

Regardless of what has transpired since January 6th, this is how the far-left rag, The New York Times, quoted the president’s words:

“‘I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.’”

Those words are hardly sedition or inciting a riot. The fact is the timeline showed a few radicals (from the left or right?) started attacking the Capitol before the rally was ended.

Folks, it is approximately four miles from the White House to the Capitol! The average person walks about 2-1/2 miles per hour. That means that the attendees would take about an hour and a half to walk to the Capitol.

During that time, mayhem was already accomplished by the few radicals in comparison to the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding citizens peacefully went to the Capitol.

Webster’s defines “piling on” as: “to join other people in criticizing something or someone in usually an unfair way.”

So, if you really care about your country, and want to get back to a semblance of normalcy and appreciation of your fellow Americans, it’s time to quit “piling on.”

The penalty could be 15 yards, a first down for the opposition, and disqualification in 2022 and 2024. What comes around, goes around.

Davis cearly opposes civil discourse, 1st Amendment

EDITOR’S NOTE: This letter was submitted on Jan. 21.

On January 18, 2021, Moe Davis (unsuccessful Democratic party candidate for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District seat) made this statement on Twitter:

“I was Chief Prosecutor at Guantanamo for over 2 years and there’s far more evidence of Congressman Madison Cawthorn’s guilt than there was of guilt for 95+ percent of the detainees. It’s time we start a domestic war on sedition by American terrorists.”

While it is true that a tiny percentage of the people who were present in Washington D.C., on January 6th committed illegal acts, there is exactly zero evidence that (U.S. Rep.) Madison Cawthorn (R-Hendersonville), President Donald Trump or any other Republican Party official or member planned, abetted or encouraged in any way the alleged criminal acts committed on that day.

On the contrary, many thousands of the president’s supporters were there that day to peacefully assemble and make their grievances known to Congress (for Mr. Davis’ information, an activity covered by the First Amendment to the Constitution).

The speakers that day, including Congressman Cawthorn and President Trump, in no way called for an incursion into the Capitol and certainly did not call for violence. There were many citizens of the 11th District present that day who can attest to this fact. It is now known that there was planning done ahead of that day’s events by people who were not supporters of President Trump.

It is bad enough that Mr. Davis claims that Congressman Cawthorn is guilty of some vague crime and guiltier than Gitmo detainees; it is outrageous that he calls for “a domestic war on sedition by American terrorists.”

Mr. Davis’ obvious low bar for evidence of guilt of a crime begs the questions: “Who would qualify as a terrorist in Mr. Davis’ envisioned special court?” and “Who would carry out this ‘domestic war?’”

One wonders if Mr. Davis is rethinking his stated position on waterboarding if it is applied to “American terrorists” and not actual enemies of the United States.

While there is no evidence of President Trump or Congressman Cawthorn inciting violence or any other kind of criminal act, Mr. Davis apparently makes a habit of it.

On September 11, 2019, Mr. Davis, blatantly inciting violence from Democratic Party members, sent out the following tweet:

“Screw they go low, we go high bullsh*t. When @NCGOP extremists go low, we stomp their scrawny necks with our heels and once you hear the sound of a crisp snap you grind your heel hard and twist it slowly side to side for good measure. He needs to know who whupped his ass.”

Here we at least have a better idea of Mr. Davis’ rules of evidence: GOP membership equals extremism. Somehow, waterboarding seems a less lethal alternative to Mr. Davis’ method of treating “extremists.”

Are those jackboots, Mr. Davis will be using to grind our “scrawny necks” into the dust of the re-education camp? Will any of the targets of Mr. Davis’ hoped-for “domestic war” even make it that far?

The members of the executive board of the Polk County, North Carolina Republican Party are appalled by the irresponsible rhetoric spewed by Mr. Davis and other members of the Democratic party.

We call on the Democratic Party of the 11th congressional district and the Democratic party of North Carolina to condemn and disavow the rantings of Mr. Davis.

The First Amendment protects speech and the peaceful assembly of citizens; it does not protect slanderous accusations or calls for violence against anyone.

DHHS ripped for decision to delay vax for at-risk patients

NC DHHS’ recent decision to break from CDC guidelines and push those with underlying medical conditions down to Phase 4 for the COVID vaccine is unfair and simply bad policy.

The data from the medical community are clear: the vast majority of COVID fatalities are coming from the patients with pre-existing medical conditions, like diabetes, asthma, heart disease and others.

Why, then, would the state choose to push those who are at most risk behind millions of North Carolinians with lower risk profiles? Why did N.C. go another way when most states followed the guidelines?

By placing these people in Phase 4, they must wait while well over a million citizens in Phases 2 and 3, many of whom are perfectly healthy, are vaccinated.

This decision was made virtually overnight with no reasons given.  It’s clear that very little thought or care was given to this critical decision and the people of N.C. suffer as a result.

Sadly, thousands will die while waiting for a vaccination that came too late.

To those who face being â€˜cleansed,’ let’s roll....

The events of the past few months including a widely regarded fraudulent election and a manufactured false flag insurrection aimed at turning the narrative against President Trump and demonizing an entire race of people have revealed that the Emperor truly has no clothes and has lost his mind like some latter day version of Emperor Nero fiddling to the winds of doom.

When the political director of ABC, Rick Klein, states that the Trump movement should be “cleansed,” what exactly does he mean by that?

When the former CIA director John Brennan says that Trump supporters should be publicly humiliated, what are we to think?

Do I hear the jackboots of a new Kristallnacht approaching?

At least 70 million American’s now know the truth. We can no longer even celebrate the illusion of freedom and democracy.

Under the old system people at least believed that we had some semblance of freedom because they could safely question the system without fear of repercussion.

We once had respect for the notion of a loyal opposition. One was allowed to dissent and to gather to petition the government. Freedom of speech was held to be sacred and was considered a key cornerstone of our democracy.

Sure the debate could get heated at times, but at the end of the day Tip O’Neill (Speaker of the House 1977-1987) and Bob Michael (House Minority Leader 1981-1995) could go to the White House and have a cocktail and a few laughs with the “Gipper” (President Ronald Reagan).

Now we are on the verge of criminalizing political dissent. This does not bode well for the millions who rightfully oppose the deep corruption in our government and want to speak out about it.

Even to oppose silly PC policy endeavors can be fatal to one’s position in the community.

Without respect for the rule of law, which must be continually reinforced from the top, people will now feel compelled to go their own way and with the ongoing damage being done by a faux pandemic and a much misunderstood virus of the common corona family, WE THE PEOPLE know that we are truly on our own.

What this means is that people understand that they must take control of things on the local level if we are to have any chance at survival.

That’s the key to understanding where we are headed. At least 70 million of us are in survival mode and I suspect many more will join us when they realize that their freedoms have been flushed down the toilet.

Unfortunately, a certain percentage of people will always opt for security over freedom so that the corrupt Oligarchs, who are now the masters of the world, will dangle the pearl of security before the brainwashed sheeple in order to render them compliant.

We may continue to hear the bones of Lady Liberty rattle in the closet, but we will never have our freedom back unless we grab her torch and re-ignite it ourselves.

Let’s roll!

A strong U.S. democracy requires two strong political parties

Over 60 court have ruled that Donald Trump and his lawyers have not presented one bit of evidence of election fraud.

Trump appointed some of these judges.

A reasonable individual would analyze this and move on. Yes, move on.... Not wallow in a senseless game of lies.

In a democracy, one has to be willing to accept defeat, not attempt a coup because he does not like the results. According to multiple sources, this was the most reliable election in modern history.

Trump is not only a pathological liar, but he is also a pathological loser. Wake up... This is not a TV show. Trump cannot say something and maike it true. He is playing a dangerous game. he knows he is lying. His faulty thinking keeps money pouring in and he thinks he looks more electable. However, the denial of reality and his shameless manipulation of people are making the transfer of power unnecessarily problematic.

Democracy is not easy. We have Donald Trump to thank for making us remember that. He woke up a lot of people in this country. At every level — local, county, state and federal ... more women, more blacks and more Latinos running and winning. If we want to have a strong democracy, we must continue to work towards justice for all. That is what this country is about.

Equality!!!! It is the best thing in the world.

Trump’s lying about the election follows a pattern. When something does not suit him, he makes up his own alternative facts. Folks, you cannot do that and have a democracy. This is done in dictatorships. A democracy demands the truth and D.J. Trump seems to be congenitally incapable of delivering it.

Even though democracy is fragile and messy, it is worth it. There are good ideas coming from both political parties, not just right-wing thinkers. No one party has the lock on the truth.

You know in your heart of hearts that the Republicans do not have all the answers. Neither do the Democrats. A strong democracy demands two strong parties.  Our democracy has checks and balances and safeguards in the Constitution because everybody is subjct to corruption.

However, everybody is also subject to do good. Trump has demonized Democrats. The truth is there are good Democrats and bad Democrats— and there are good Republicans and bad Republicans.

The fact is that we are much more alike than unalike. We are humans ... We have hopes and dreams... We are Americans.

I am trying to do what Abraham Lincoln talked about ....  to let my better angels direct my thinking.

It is my passionate hope that you will let your better angels direct your thinking.
