From Staff Reports

HENDERSONVILLE — The band Vintage Vinyl entertained an estimated 150 people during a Halloween dance on Oct. 31 at Point Lookout Vineyards.

Many of the gala’s attendees wore Halloween-themed costumes. The band played three 45-minute sets — and a Daily Planet reporter covered the first two sets.

Second set highlights included three straight Beatles hits (“Back in the USSR,” “I Saw Her Standing There” and “You Can’t Do That), the Monkees’ megahit “I’m a Believer” and the Nat King Cole Trio’s “(Get Your Kick on) Route 66.”

The show’s intensity seemed to build in the second set, when the dance floor often was filled during songs such as two Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Born on the Bayou” and “Green River,” Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Taking Care of Business” and Looking Glass’ “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl).”

As is the case with other local bands, a rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” drew much enthusiasm from the audience and dancers during the second set, followed by  Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise,” Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Good” and two big hits by Steppenwolf — “Magic Carpet Ride” and “Born to Be Wild.”

Early in the second set, the band’s emcee noted that Sean Connery, who widely is considered the best James Bond in the long-running film series, had died early on Oct. 31. In his honor, Vintage Vinyl launched into Johnny Rivers’ “Secret Agent Man,” triggering a cheer from the diners and dancers.
