CULLOWHEE ?? Four days after seizing the championship, Appalachian State University won three individual Southern Conference awards including coach and player of the year, while placing 10 players on the first team all-conference squad.
The SoCon on Nov. 22 named quarterback Richie Williams player of the
year, while it awarded coach of the year honors to head coach Jerry
Moore. Defensive tackle Matt Isenhour took the Jacobson Blocking
Trophy.
In the all-conference squad, three of the six first-team offensive picks were from ASU: Isenhour, Grant Oliver and Kerry Brown.
Also on offense are Williams, tight end Daniel Bettis, wide receiver Jermane Little and running back Kevin Richardson.
Defensively, ASU??s first team picks were defensive linemen Marques
Murrell and Jason Hunter, along with defensive back Corey Lynch.
Western Carolina University had four first-team picks, including return
specialist Maike Malone, defensive backs Primus Glover and Francis
Brown and defensive tackle Felipe Foster.
