Emily Bernstein shows her $3.95 billion tax bill for Bank of America during MoveOn Asheville’s “Tax Day — Make Them Pay” speak-out protest on April 17 in downtown Asheville’s Pritchard Park. The oversized mock tax bill was presented to — and accepted by — officials at the main Asheville branch of Bank of America just before the bank’s daily 5 p.m. closing. The local council of MoveOn.org, targeted 12 of the nation’s largest corporations for criticism during the rally. The group contended that the large corporations made huge profits, but paid little or nothing in income taxes or even, in some cases, received refunds. The rally drew about 150 protesters, with a wide range of age groups represented. Daily Planet Staff Photo
