UNCA police report
vandalism outbreak
UNC Asheville campus police recently reported the following incidents and investigations:
• A fire damaged structures at Rhodes Hall on campus at 6:27 p.m. Feb. 10.
The fire resulted in about $20,000 damage to a chiller and wiring.
• Vandalism was reported at Mills Hall on campus about 8:39 a.m. Feb.
23. The damage was first spotted by Vollie Barnwell, an employee of the
UNCA Housing Office.
A brick wall was spray-painted, resulting in an estimated $100 in damage.
• Vandalism was reported to an automobile on the Zager Parking Deck on campus at 9:36 p.m. Feb. 24.
Someone “placed a sawhorse” on the vehicle, owned by PV Holding Corp. Damage to the Cadillac SRX-CR was estimated at $900.
• Vandalism resulting in damage to a Gatorade vending machine was reported at Mills Hall at 3:03 p.m. Feb. 18.
The damage to the machine was estimated at $400.
• Larceny was reported by an unidentified female student, age 19, in the Highsmith University Union at 4 p.m. March 3.
Specifically, police stated that someone “opened mail and removed gift cards.”
Stolen gift cards, each of which was valued at $25, included two
for IHop, and one each for Crack Barrel and Long Horn/Red Lobster.
