Ingles plan advances, but still needs OK from City Council
Wednesday, 12 January 2011 09:55

Plans for a new Ingles grocery store on Smoky Park Highway in West Asheville received conditional approval of Asheville’s Technical Review Committee on Jan. 3.

However, because of the project’s size, it automatically will require the approval of City Council.
Ingles, a regional grocery chain based in Black Mountain, is seeking city permission to place a 105,175-square foot supermarket, as well as a car wash and gas station, on a site next to where its existing store is now situated at 153 Smoky Park Highway.

The project also includes an additional 32,060 square feet of new retail space, as well as outparcels for future development.

In addition, Ingles is asking for several exceptions to city development standards, which must be decided by council.
