Driver reportedly used SUV
to attack woman at pub
A woman’s leg may have to be amputated after witnesses say she was hit by a sports utility vehicle driven by another woman who appeared angry that the victim was talking with the motorist’s husband.
Amy Nicole Roberts, 23, reportedly was hurt late Sept. 28 as she sat on old cast-iron radiator sunk in concrete — to form a fence — behind Westville Pub in West Asheville.
Robert Gonzales, the pub’s cook, said he saw a grayish Toyota 4Runner pull up next to Roberts and two male friends. He said the driver squealed the tires as she backed up about 20 feet, accelerated into the fence, then screamed obsenities at the injured Roberts, including reportedly, “That’s what you get for (expletive) with me, (expletive).” The two men managed to jump out of the way, but Roberts’ legs were pinned against the radiators.
Police have charged Jesica Renee Hall, 32, of Candler with assault with a
deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and reckless driving to
endanger. She also was charged with three counts of hit and run related
to minor injuries to two other people and damage to the Westville Pub.
She was released from jail after posting $9,000 bond.
Roberts was taken to Mission Hospital with a broken leg and foot, with
serious damage to her left leg down. She may lose her leg under a
worst-case scenario.
Big fish heist reported
at Canton trout ponds
CANTON — Fish recently were reported stolen here at Sunburst Trout Farm, which lost 600 pounds from one of the trout ponds.
Owner Sally Eason is not sure how the thieves were able to get inside the fenced-in pond and remove all the fish.
She has contacted local fish markets, warning them to be suspicious if
anyone wants to unload a large amount of the tasty trout, which would
sell for thousands of dollars. The Haywood County Sheriff’s Department
is investigating the fish heist.
