The steel drum sounds of Pan Jive were featured during UNC Asheville’s Concerts on the Quad concert series, drawing nearly 2,000 people to the free event on the night of June 28. Pan Jive steel band has been entertaining audiences with its high-energy music since 1998. The Hickory-based sextet performs under the direction of Rick Cline, using traditional steel drums from the island of Trinidad to play music from traditional calypso to 1980s rock. Many in the crowd danced — and even formed a conga line.
