T hese are interesting times to be living in what surely soon will be renamed the People’s Republic of the United States.
In its Feb. 16 edition, Newsweek’s cover boldly proclaimed, “We are all socialists now,” with a subhead of “The perils and promise of the new era of Big Government.”
On Tax Day (April 15), there was a double dose of idiocy, as the lead headline in the April 15 edition of USA Today stated, “Most Americans OK with Big Government — for now.” Meanwhile, a column by Michael W. Hall, a retired Presbyterian minister in Weaverville, appeared in the Asheville Citizen-Times, headlined “Next step should be looking at a world government.”
Those who favor Big Government, universal health care and perhaps a worldwide government should bear in mind the lessons of history, which show that shifting back to small government is extremely difficult.
Proponents of individual liberty and free enterprise, over collectivism, must fight the tidal wave of Big Government crazies now, or risk the likelihood of living in a future of tyranny.
