The Buckerettes, who played “free-ranging, trail-blazin’ hometown cowgirl swing” on July 14, concluded the 2008 Concerts on the Quad Summer Music Series. The Asheville-based band is led by Robin Cape, bass and vocals; Deb Criss, guitar and vocals; and Roberta Greenspan, fiddle and vocals. Cape also is a member of Asheville City Council. Besides its honky-tonking, foot-stomping vibe, the group is known for its sultry harmonies and lilting instrumentation, infused with the strong traditionalism of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Several hundred people attended the final outdoor concert, with some enjoying the show from lawnchairs, others lounging on blankets in the grass, and still others dancing. Daily Planet Staff Photos
