Wild Bodema and Chix with Stix (above) were among the performers at the first-ever Time for Our Power women’s conference last Saturday night in Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in downtown Asheville. The three-day gathering drew several hundred people, mostly women. Besides the keynote speakers, workshops were held throughout weekend on various topics. Among the other performers at the Saturday-night gala were Robin Cape and The Buckerettes, Sue Ford and her band, and the Sister Spirit Queens. Asheville Daily Planet Staff Photo

Backed up by her band, Sue Ford (with guitar) performs as the Sister Spirit Queens (above left) dance and provide backup vocals during Saturday night’s entertainment at the Time for Our Power women’s conference in Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in downtown Asheville. The female trio drew much applause from the audience for its spirited choreography, reminiscent of the Motown girl-groups of yester-year.
