AUGUSTA, Ga. — For the third consecutive night a shutout was pitched at Lake Olmstead Stadium with the Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 2-2) falling to the Asheville Tourists (46-24, 2-2) 7-0 on Sunday.
Starter Craig Clark suffered the loss and Thomas Neal had two of Augusta’s four hits in the game.
Asheville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with the help of four consecutive singles to start the inning. Kevin Clark drove in the first run with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Darin Holcomb came up next with the bases loaded and reached on catcher’s interference to force in another run for Asheville. Brian Rike capped off the scoring with an RBI sac-fly.
The Tourists added a single run in the fourth inning when David
Christensen led off the frame with a solo-homer to left field, his
seventh of the season.
Asheville made it 5-0 in the fifth inning on a one-out RBI single from Holcomb to chase Clark from the game.
Clark (5-1) worked 4.1 innings allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits. The lefty also walked one and struck out three.
The Tourists added two more runs in eighth inning off of
reliever Wilmin Rodriguez for a 7-0 lead. Rodriguez began the inning
walking four straight to force in the first run. Then with Dan Turpen
in relief, a wild pitch scored the second run to end the scoring for
the day.
Connor Graham (5-3) recorded the win with eight shutout innings
pitched and four hits allowed. The right-hander also walked two and
struck out five.
