FLAT ROCK — A squabble over rules regarding campaign signs before a debate last Thursday between Republican congressional hopefuls for the 11th District resulted in some colorful name-calling, but was resolved when Flat Rock Mayor Bob Staton reached a compromise with candidate Carl Mumpower.
After Mumpower threatened to skip the Flat Rock debate, claiming that organizers were “rigging the game” in favor of other candidates with the sign rules, Staton e-mailed Mumpower that he had “encountered my share of arrogant asses, but none could hold a candle to you!”
Mumpower later changed his mind and participated in the debate, where he and Staton patched up their differences.
Even then, the two men disagreed — Mumpower said Staton apologized for his comments, but Staton denied it.
