About 20 activists from the environmental organization Greenpeace this past Monday re-created a strip of freeway in Mexico City in front of the national Office of the Environmental Secretary (“Semarnat”), to protest the routing of the Lerma Tres-Marías freeway-construction project through a protected natural area southwest of Mexico City. Protestors attached to the ground a 30-meter “asphalt strip” to symbolize the strip authorities are laying down for the project, which Greenpeace says threatens the water supply for millions of Mexicans.
