Filing period ends for May 6 races; county, state candidates released

The filing period for county and state elections ended Feb. 29. The candidates for each race in the May 6 primary are as follows:

For chairman of Buncombe County Board of Commissioners:
• David Gantt, a Democrat from south Buncombe.
• Nathan Ramsey, a Republican from Fairview.

For Buncombe County Board of Commissioners:
• K. Ray Bailey, a Democrat from Fairview.
• Steve Bledsoe, a Republican from Asheville.
• Cecil Bothwell, a Democrat from Asheville.
• John Carroll, a Republican from north Buncombe.
• Vernon Dover, a Democrat from Leicester.
• Joe Dunn, a Republican from Asheville.
• J. Ray Elingburg, a Democrat from Weaverville.
• Michael Fryar, a Republican from Fairview.
• Robert Hill, a Democrat from Candler.
• Holly Jones, a Democrat from Asheville.
• Ron McKee, a Republican from Arden.
• Carol Peterson, a Democrat from Asheville.

For register of deeds:
