State takes over animal shelter after repeated neglect allegations
Tuesday, 05 February 2008 17:23

HENDERONSVILLE — Veterinarians were hopeful about the future of 177 dogs and cats left at a shelter that had a long history of complaints and has since been taken over by the state.

State officials took over operations at All Creatures Great and Small in Hendersonville last Friday, bringing a team of veterinarians, volunteers and animal officials from across the state to evaluate the animals’ conditions and find them homes.

The state shut down the private, no-kill shelter after finding the animals were being neglected.

Now, each animal will be evaluated, treated for diseases such as heartworm and given vaccinations. The shelter was expected to reopen this week for adoptions by the public.

Anyone interested in adopting an animal can call (866) 546-0021.
