CULLOWHEE ó Furman University stomped Western Carolina 52-21 to end Catamounts coach Kent Briggsí six-year tenure in his teamís season finale in front of a generally subdued crowd of 5,175 fans at Whitmire Stadium last Saturday afternoon.
The margin of defeat was WCUís worst at home since being whipped by 23 points by Wofford College in 2003.
WCU (1-10, 0-7 SoCon) finished its second-straight season with no
SoCon wins. The Catamounts hung tough in the first half, but absorbed a
pummeling in the second half.
Furman (6-5, 4-3), led by quarterback Renaldo Gray, amassed 583 yards, while holding WCU to just 218 yards.
Two Catamounts set single-season school records in the game ó
Eddie Cohen, for pass-reception yardage; and Mike Malone, for
all-purpose yardage.
