UNC Asheville named Jesse Norman as the new coach of its menís and womenís cross country and track and field teams (indoor and outdoor).
Norman, 26, a former Western Carolina University distance-running standout, was introduced as the coach of six Bulldog teams during a news conference on Aug. 7 at Atlanta Bread Co. near the UNCA campus.
Norman earned all-conference distinction at WCU in the 10,000-meter run during the 2000 outdoor season and later served as an assistant to Catamounts coach Danny Williamson.
Meanwhile, UNCA athletic director Janet Cone is spearheading a $2 million project to build a new track facility at the school. Construction is expected to begin in the coming year.
