Tourists third baseman goes hitless in U.S. defeat

SAN FRANCISCO ó Ian Stewart, a former third baseman for the Asheville Tourists, started for the United States team as the designated hitter in a 7-2 loss to the World team in the All-Star Futures game on July 8.

Stewart, who went hitless in four at-bats, played for Asheville in 2004. Batting in the fourth slot, he struck out once. Stewart now plays for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, a Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

Former Robertson High star and Detroit Tigersí prospect Cameron Maybin had been selected to play, but missed the game because of a shoulder injury. Maybin was the only player invited to play on the U.S. team from last yearís squad.
