WEAVERVILLE ó Aaron Saft finished at 16 minutes and five seconds to win the 14th annual Kiwanis Firecracker 5K (3.1-mile) foot race last Wednesday.

Saft, 29, is co-owner of Foot RX, a recently opened running store in South Asheville,

Finishing second and third in the menís race were Ryan Shon, 20, of Fairview, 16:12; and Daniel Amick, 23, of Asheville, 16:51.

In the womenís race, Amanda Chase, 25, of Asheville finished first at 19:05.

A record 350 runners competed, which was a 20 percent jump from last yearís turnout, race organizers said. Proceeds from the annual race, a Kiwanis fundraiser, will be used to fund college scholarships for seniors at North Buncombe High School.
