Besty Blose

UNC Asheville womenís basketball coach Besty Blose recently agreed to a four-year contract extension that includes a 10 percent pay increase to remain at the school.

Blose, who led the Bulldogs to their first NCAA tournament last season, had interviewed for head-coaching jobs at Central Michigan and Maine in recent weeks after being offered the extension and raise.

Her new contract, which runs through July 2011, will pay $69,630 annually. She officially signed the contract on May 24 at a news conference at Atlanta Bread Co. on Merrimon Avenue.

She has a 76-71 record at UNCA and has guided the program to four consecutive wining records. Her first team finished 3-25, but since then she has posted a 73-46 record. UNCA won the Big South Conference womenís basketball tournament for the first time this past season.
