With two strikes and two outs, Anthony Jackson smashed a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Asheville Tourists to a 6-5 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators in front of 2,206 fans at McCormick Field on Sunday afternoon.
Jacksonís first home run of the season enabled the Tourists (21-9) to finish its homestand at 5-1. Getting the win for Asheville was reliever Katz (3-1), who allowed four hits and no runs in two innings.

ï Ashevilleís Logan Wiens smacked a double in the seventh inning that
scored three runs, lifting the Tourists to a 6-4 win over Kannapolis
last Saturday night in front of 1,089 fans at McCormick Field. Wiens, a
backup first baseman from Merced, Calif., also hit a double in the
first inning that fell just short of clearing the outfield fence.
Asheville (20-9) was trailing 4-3 when Wiens came up big in the
seventh. Craig Baker (2-0) got the win by pitching one inning in relief
for the Tourists. Sean Jarrett registered his third save of the season
by pitching a scoreless final inning.
ï The Tourists ripped the Intimidators 12-2, giving manager Joe Mikulik
his 500th victory with Asheville last Friday night in front of 1,870
fans at McCormick Field. Following the win, Mikulik received handshakes
and hugs from his players, coaches and wife Kathy. The manager also was
presented the game ball by relief pitcher James Burok, who struck out
the last batter to seal the win. Mikulik, 500-493 and in his eighth
season in Asheville, only has been surpassed in franchise wins by Ray
Hathaway (518-410). Getting the win for the Tourists was Keith Wesier
(5-0), who pitched six shutout innings before giving up two runs in the
seventh. Asheville smacked 15 hits, highlighted by a four-run third
inning that was fueled by a two-run double by Michael McHenry.
ï Asheville smacked a season-high nine extra-base hits to pummel the
Greenville (S.C.) Drive 7-2 last Wednesday in front of 1,589 fans at
McCormick Field. Hitting one home run each for the Tourists were Hector
Gomez and Daniel Mayora in the sixth inning, while Anthony Jackson
slammed his third triple in three days. Getting the win for Asheville
was starter Andrew Kreidermacher (1-0), who allowed six hits and one
run in five innings.
ï The Tourists dismantled the Drive 8-1 on May 1 in front of† an
Education Day crowd of 3,226 fans at McCormick Field. Leading Asheville
was knuckleball pitcher Simon Ferrer (2-2), who hurled a career-high
seven innings, allowing three hits and no runs to get the win. The
Tourists combined for a season-high nine extra-base hits, including six
doubles.
ï Greenville rallied from a 7-0 deficit to nip Asheville 8-7 on April
30 in front of 2,046 fans at McCormick Field. The comeback was
highlighted by a three-run ninth inning in which the Drive scored the
winning run on a throwing error by Asheville right fielder Bret
Berglund. Taking the loss was reliever Ethan Katz (2-1), who allowed
four hits and three runs (two earned) in one inning.
