Sizzling Catfish start fast, ruin Touristsí opener 8-3

A five-run first inning and 17 hits overall propelled the Columbus Catfish over the Asheville Tourists 8-3 to spoil the latterís home opener in baseball on a chilly Friday-the-13th night in front of 3,113 fans at McCormick Field.

In addition to its sizzling first inning, Columbus scored two runs in the fourth and one in the seventh inning to secure the victory.

Asheville was dominated at the plate by Catfish starter Josh Butler (1-0), who allowed one unearned run on three hits in five innings. He also fanned five batters.

In contrast, Touristsí starter Aneury Rodriguez (0-2) allowed 13 hits and seven runs before he was removed. However, Rodriguez fanned five batters.

Asheville scored one run in the second when first baseman Michael Paulk reached base on a walk and later scored on a Victor Ferrante sacrifice fly.

The Tourists scored their other two runs in the sixth inning, when Paul got on base on a two-out walk, followed immediately by a home run swatted by catcher Michael McHenry.
