The Candid Conservative: Woke politics: lazy, insincere and dangerous

“At its heart, wokeness is divisive, exclusionary and hateful. It basically gives mean people a shield to be mean and cruel, armored in false virtue.”

Now that L.A. has burned down; Portland’s streets are dominated by needle addicts; N.Y. has become a 19th century transportation model; San Francisco has surrendered its soul to homeless predators; Asheville, N.C., has achieved premier status as an epicenter of woke silliness.

Evil never runs out of backup quarterbacks.

Under the central command of a Democrat Party that dominates literally everything in the Asheville/Buncombe arena, the nonsensical mischief here is fascinating.

By the way, as a question for those of the donkey persuasion, whatever happened to your passion for “diversity” as the key to all that ails us?

Oh, yes, I forgot. The liberal idea of diversity is that everyone is welcome as long as they’re not conservative, Bible-led, Republican, white, MAGA voters, NASCAR fans, or believe, wherever possible, people should actually work for their daily bread.

If you doubt the liberal-progressive-socialist model of diversity, stop by one of the meetings of the Asheville/Buncombe Community Reparations Commission and hang out.

As a precaution, you’d do well to put on a rusty “I love Kamala” button as you enjoy the festivities.

Don’t expect to get paid for your “public service” — like the official commission members.

No wonder this bunch can’t do anything productive. The paychecks stop when their work is done.

Not that it ever will be.

It’s illegal to give public funds to people on the basis of race, and the mayor, city council, city attorney, city manager and our local media marketing arms for the left all know it.

What that means is we have a race-based circus funded by taxpayers hiding behind the pretense that pandering to the illusions of others is a form of compassion.

Shame on our elected officials for setting these racist entrepreneurs up for failure.

This bit of political chicanery is expensive, irritating, and divisive, but it’s not particularly dangerous.

A whole lot of other things in Asheville are.

If we want to get real with the real things that are undermining our community. Here are a few new anti-woke commission suggestions:

• The Asheville-Buncombe Drug Commission: designed to do combat with the drug culture that is busily eating up our kids, resources and public safety.

• The Immigration Sincerity Commission: designed to make Asheville a sanctuary city for immigrants who come here legally. Advocate for state and federal laws that are enforced against people who force their way into our country. Campaign for legal immigration that is doable, realistic, fair and properly administered.

• The Public Services Commission: designed to monitor the effectiveness of local government in fulfilling their primary responsibility — public services — in answerable fashion. Hurricane Helene will continue to beat us into the mud on this one.

• The Judicial Integrity Commission: designed to monitor and challenge our very broken, inefficient, expensive and delay-prone judicial system. Start with asking how long it takes to process a rape kit or drug analysis request through the state crime lab. Ask how long it takes to complete the local judicial process for drug dealers and violent criminals. Put icing on the “where we can fix it” cake by tracking the repeat offender percentages. Highlighting the cost-per-hour for attorney services and the number who have a “D” after their name can be the candles.

• The Taxpayer Protection Commission: designed to make sure that our local governments are purposefully run in an efficient, realistic and cost-effective manner. Check your tax bill for why.

• The “Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness” Doesn’t Exist Commission: designed to stop throwing money and hollow words into programs that have a decades-long history of failure and pretense. Note to those thus engaged: any program that removes personal accountability from the helping equation is doomed to fail.

• The Black-on-Black Violence Commission: designed to address the fact that black young adults are dependably being murdered by other black young adults and absolutely nobody is doing anything about it. Well, unless you consider blaming slave-owners who were put out of business 150 years ago and racists who were broadly disavowed over 50 years ago as a form of action.

• The Public Housing Safety Commission: designed to ensure that the children, elderly and less-fortunate living in public housing are not subject to constant tensions/dangers created by drug dealers, generational dependency on public services, crime, violence and other insecurities relentlessly associated with those environments. Note — If you doubt that last one, drive through in the evening – and most other times – and ask yourself how comfortable you feel even in the safety of your car?

Though our Democrat-controlled local government officials and their media enablers love to paint a happy face on our community’s reality, a quick drive-by on Tunnel Road, downtown and any of our public housing developments tells the truth.

Woke governance doesn’t work well at anything but preserving the power of those who enjoy the privileges of that power; spending other people’s money; prioritizing warm and fuzzy declarations over difficult and realistic problem-solving; and — per that clearly conservative insight on reality — peeing on the legs of our citizenry and telling them it’s raining.
