From Staff Reports

GAFFNEY — Spartanburg Community College will spend more than $50 million to expand its campus in Cherokee County to help serve its students and attract more business to the area, Greenville television station WYFF 4 reported on Nov 26

Officials at the community college said that, on Nov. 25, “the expansion could double the student population on campus,” WTFF 4 added.

"I think this shows SCC believes in our people, not only our students but our community," spokesperson Savanna James told WYFF 4. "This move, plus more than $50 million investment into directly Cherokee County means we believe in our students. We want them to come here, and then, we want them to stay here after they graduate.”

SCC purchased the site of the former Fatz Cafe off Interstate 85, along with about 20 acres next to the old restaurant. The land is located next to the iconic Peachoid.

“James said the college plans to build a business accelerator called the Spark Center and a new academic building for students. A mock-up of the expansion also includes a possible new entrance into the campus,” WYFF 4 stated.
