From Staff Reports
North Asheville-based Moog Music has announced plans to relocate from its facilities on Broadway Street — and the buildings in which it still is located are available for lease.
In a statement, Moog Music President Joe Richardson said the company is moving product design, development, and engineering to the former Asheville Citizen-Times building, at 14 O’Henry Avenue in downtown Asheville.
The Citizen-Times staff is moving out of the second-floor newsroom of its longtime home by the end of March, according Asheville television station WLOS (News 13).
In a recent story in the ACT, which reviewed the newspaper’s history in the building, the ACT’s move out of the building was first announced, but the story did not say where the newspaper’s new office would be located.
To that end, the Daily Planet recently emailed long-time ACT reporter Joel Burgess, asking him simply to specify where the newspaper was moving to in Asheville. However, no response was received by the Daily Planet’s deadline for this edition.
As for Moog, in the company’s announcement it said it also will be expanding its manufacturing facility in Weaverville — a town located just north of Asheville.
Moog was purchased by inMusic in June 2023. The company announced layoffs months later in September.
In a comment bubble after its March 15 story on the Moog Music move, News 13 included the following comments:
• WindRidge — “Expanding but laying off? Bought out by a corporate raider. Get ready to be made elsewhere.”
• OldManPearson — “They are moving the remaining workers into a warehouse to save money as they prepare to leave town entirely. They fired 120 people last year. This company is garbage now.”
