From Staff Reports

Asheville, affectionately known as “The Paris of the South,” has placed first in the United States as the premier choice to relocate in pursuit of a new career direction, according to a recently released survey of 3,000 professionals looking for their next job switch.

Specifically, the result is indicated in a survey conducted by Careerminds.com, billed as a career management company that, in part, helps displaced workers land a new role outside their current organization, particularly assisting companies with employees spread over large geographical regions.

Three other North Carolina cities were also considered appealing for a career switch among professionals, according to the survey, including Winston-Salem, No. 47; Greenville, No. 73; and Hickory, No. 74.

So why was Asheville ranked at atop the survey?

“Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, professionals are flocking to Asheville, known for its vibrant arts scene, historical architecture and outdoor recreation opportunities,” the survey reported.

“The city has a growing economy supported by a strong community focus on sustainability and local businesses. Asheville’s cultural diversity and commitment to environmental initiatives appeal to families seeking a unique blend of urban amenities and access to nature.”

Listed behind Asheville were the following:

• No. 2: Pasadena, California

• No. 3: Oviedo, Florida

• No. 4: St. Johnsbury, Vermont

• No. 5: Sugar Land, Texas
