Grizzlies rip up Bulldogs 49-0 in football blowout
The Asheville Grizzlies chewed up the Carolina Bulldogs 49-0 in minor league football at Memorial Stadium last Saturday night.
Grizzlies quarterback Phillip Hall hurled three touchdown passes, including strikes to Johnny Smith, Paul Helwedge and Tennyson Rucker. Asheville evened its record at 1-1.
Asheville sweeps twin bill 9-5, 5-2 over Charleston
CHARLESTON, S,C. ?? The Asheville Tourists won both games of a baseball
doubleheader against the Charleston RiverDogs last Sunday.
The Tourists won the first game ?? the completion of Saturday??s rainout ?? 9-5 and triumphed in the second, 5-2.
Leading Asheville was second baseman Eric Young Jr., who finished the
day 3-for-8, with a home run, two runs, four RBIs and his 62nd stolen
base of the season.
Drive steamrolls Tourists 9-1; losing streak reaches six
GREENVILLE, S,C. ?? The Greenville Drive shifted into overdrive to rip
the Asheville Tourists 8-1 in baseball in front of 6,279 fans last
Friday.
The loss was the sixth in a row for Asheville (11-11), which managed only three hits.
Asheville starter Zach Simons (5-9) got the loss, allowing seven runs in six innings.
Greenville edges Asheville 5-4 with 11th inning singles
GREENVILLE, S,C. ?? The Greenville Drive nipped the Asheville Tourists
5-4 in 11 innings of baseball in front of 5,523 fans last Thursday.
Tourists?? reliever Jon George (2-4) took the loss. He allowed three
singles in one-third of an inning in the 11th that resulted in the
winning run.
Drive flattens Tourists 11-5 with seven-run first inning
GREENVILLE, S,C. ?? The Greenville Drive raced to a 7-0 lead in the
first inning and coasted to a 11-5 win over the Asheville Tourists in
baseball in front of 3,880 fans last Wednesday.
Asheville starter Xavier Cedeno (5-6) took the loss after allowing
seven hits, seven runs and one walk in one-third of an inning.
The Tourists retaliated with three runs in the second inning and one
run in the fourth, but the Drive added more runs of its own and never
relinquished its lead.
Augusta edges Asheville 3-2 for 10th straight win
The Augusta GreenJackets nipped the Asheville Tourists 3-2 in baseball
in front of 2,072 Camp Day fans at McCormick Field on July 10.
In winning its 10th consecutive game, Augusta (16-3) moved into a
five-game lead over second-place Asheville (11-8) in the South Atlantic
League. The game also marked the GreenJackets second straight one-run
win over the Tourists.
Tourists starter Alan Johnson (8-4) took the loss, allowing seven hits,
three runs and two walks in six innings. He fanned three.
