MEN FOR MISSIONS, 8 a.m., Temple Baptist Church, 985-1/2 Patton Ave., Asheville. Men for Missions will hold a breakfast meeting.
Saturday, Aug. 7
CAR/MOTORCYCLE/EQUIPMENT SHOW, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church, Glen Bridge Road S.E., Arden. A car-motorcycle-equipment show will be held. Also featured will be a bake sale, DJ and food for sale. To register, which costs $15, call 712-2594.
PUBLIC RITUAL, 4 p.m., French Broad River Park, corner of Amboy Road and Riverview Drive, Asheville. Mother Grove Goddess Temple will celebrate first harvest (Lughnasadh) with a public ritual. Children’s activities will begin at 3 p.m, followed by the ritual led by Byron Ballard at 4. Afterward, a potluck will be held. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and their own feastware. Donations, which are welcome, will go toward back-to-school supplies for Mother’s Cornucopia Project and the Temple’s program.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL, 4-6 p.m., East Asheville United Methodist Church, 48 Browndale Rd., Asheville. An ice cream social will benefit missions.
CONCERT, 7 p.m., Refuge Baptist Church, 1 Oleta Rd., Hendersonvile. Ivan Parker will perform in concert.

BAKE SALE, 9 a.m.-noon, Unity Center, 2041 Old Fanning Bridge Rd., Mills River. A bake sale to benefit ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) will feature goodies for sale from area bakeries.
STORYTELLING SERVICE, 11 a.m., Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Swannanoa Valley, 500 Monteat Rd., Black Mountain. Award-winning storyteller David Novak will lead a storytelling adventure around a summertime “campfire.” His ‘fireside” stories will illustrate sharing one’s light with the world (“Raven Brings Light”), the lessons learned when encountering another person, culture and story (“The Sky Woman’s Basket”) and rememering to share one’s abundance with others (“Jack and the Beanstalk”).
MEDITATION/CHANTING CIRCLE, 1:15 p.m., Congregation Beth Israel, 229 Murdock Ave., Asheville. The Asheville Jewish Meditation and Chanting Circle will meet.
CROSSWIRED SERVICE, 5 p.m., St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 10 N. Liberty St., Asheville. Crosswired, a “come as you are” summer service series will be held. Child care will be provided.

TRUTH ON TAP, 7 p.m., Lexington Avenue Brewery, 39 N. Lexington Ave., downtown Asheville. The Rev. Chad O’Shea will lead an “out of the box” dialogue, which is billed as “getting clear on how we manage to turn the Garden of Eden into a rock and a hard place.” The “pub chat” is intended as a way to socialize with Unitics and local folks in the exploraton of the twists and turns of each individual’s spiritual path.
Wednesday, Aug. 11
HEALER’S NIGHT, 7 p.m., Unity Center, 2041 Old Fanning Bridge Rd., Mills River. A potpourri of mini-sessions will be offered by serveral of Unity’s healers. The evening may include a massage, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), myofascial trigger point therapy, Reiki sessions, therapeutic touch and other treatements. Admission is free, bu a love offering to Unity will be taken.

SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY GALA, 3-7 p.m., Nazarene Christian School, 385 Hazel Mill Road, Asheville. The school will hold its 35th anniversary celebration, featuring fun and fellowship — and food.
Friday, Aug. 13
SOCIAL JUSTICE FILM, 7 p.m., Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville, One Edwin Place, Asheville. The church will show “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” chronicling the remarkable story of six courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to Liberia, their shattered country.

Ed and Romella O’Keefe wil lead a workshop for participants to learn about the “aha” moments that many individuals have had. The O’Keefes are writing a book about them and have many to share.
