Trevi‘s may be purchased as workers seek recourse Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 September 2006
Trevi Restaurant & Gourmet Market employees left jobless after the business closed may be back at work soon ‚Äî at Trevi‘s.

A silent auction is being conducted to sell the restaurant, according to Dale Wolfe, president of the business‘s parent company, Wolffam Inc.

Wolfe said the restaurant — which closed and declared bankruptcy Sept. 1, following a hepatitis A scare — would not reopen under his ownership. There are, however, already a number of prospective buyers, he added.
Following the closure, Trevi‘s employees were left without a job or final paycheck.

Jim Taylor, administrator of the North Carolina Department of Labor‘s Wage and Hour Bureau, said the employees may have a difficult time recovering their last paychecks.

If the business has closed and has no assets, he explained, there is little recourse.

The Asheville Independent Restaurant Association rushed its already-planned job board onto the Internet in light of Trevi‘s closing. Sandie Rhodes, the association‘s executive officer, said the group worked through the weekend to get the board online.

Trevi‘s closed following a confirmed case of hepatitis A in a restaurant worker in late August. The Buncombe County Health Department administered nearly 400 free immune globulin shots to the restaurant‘s customers.
