Rally’s speakers stir up anti-raid sentiment Print E-mail

The crowd (above) attending the Aug. 16 protest rally in Pritchard Park hold up their signs and cheer in support of the 57 undocument workers who were busted in an Aug. 12 raid at Mills Manunfacturing in Woodfin. Below are some of the speakers at the rally. At bottom, a man holds a “Deport Mumpower” sign, as another man plays a sad military cadence on a drum. The sign refers to Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower’s claim of credit for blowing the whistle on the alleged undocumented workers at the U.S. military parachute-making factory. Mumpower, the Republican nominee for the 11th District congressional seat, is challenging Rep. Heath Shuler, D-Waynesville. Asheville Daily Planet Staff Photos
